"Spiritually. We can get pulled down, can't we? And we can get pulled down with things like what? We can get pulled down with things like gossip. We can get pulled down to the things of this earth in terms of spreading rumors. And I'll be honest with you, and I'm gonna be very direct with you as your temporary administrator. I want us to keep our eyes lifted above. How many of us would want our sins made public? Because if people know your sins, what are they gonna start doing? Gossiping, rumors, making things up, telling lies about us. And that can happen. It can happen here. My friends, what I'd like to do with this... Ironically, this gospel is just so perfectly fitting with the situation here now at the Basilica because it's saying, "Wait a second. Why don't we use this opportunity?" Again, it's a difficult time. Yes, it's difficult, but use the opportunity of the difficult time to identify and for us to put into practice our baptism. What are the promises we made at baptism? Then let's not get dragged down to the things of this earth of the devil. At this time, my friends, let's use this as an opportunity to raise our eyes to the things of heaven, to put into practice our baptism and our faith in Jesus Christ. Raise your eyes up to the things of Jesus Christ, of God the Father. Get beyond the things of the earth that can drag us down." [Listen to the full homily below...]
